The discard incoming emails feature can be very useful. Some websites send automated email messages that are sent via a certain account. These sites will often time set this address to discard all incoming email since the address is an automated script, and not a person. This prevents the mailbox from becoming too full and also prevents the space used by the mailbox to count against the disk space quota.
