What is an autoresponder?

An autoresponder, otherwise known as a vacation message, is a message that is automatically sent to anyone who sends email to the email account while it is enabled. This allows all senders to know that nobody is checking email at the moment, but that it has been received, keeping them from thinking the mail has been lost in delivery.
