What is an email alias?

A mail alias is an email address in your domain that simply forwards mail to another email address on that domain; it does not store any of the email it receives.

Do not confuse a mail alias with a mail forwarder. While functionally they are similar, they are not the same thing.  Mail forwarders are used to forward the emails to a address on another domain.
