Why can’t I send email?
Having problems sending email, but verified that all of the account settings are correct? If everything is configured properly and mail still will not flow, it is very possible that your ISP (internet service provide) is restricting outgoing mail traffic.
Over the years spammers have become a real problem for any regular user of the internet / email universe. As part of an ongoing effort to combat spam, there are various levels of security precautions that companies can take to avoid having their networks abused by spammers.
One such measure is to limit all outgoing mail traffic to their mailservers only. What does this mean? To put it simply, it means that if the connection is made through one of the major ISP’s that supports this feature (a list of known ISP’s will be posted below), then the user is restricted to using the mail servers on that network, and not a 3rd party mail server like Weberz.
When an ISP restricts outgoing mail to only their servers, they have workarounds available. Unfortunately each ISP implements the workaround differently, and the only way to get it right is to contact them directly.
Here is a list of the currently known ISP’s that restrict outgoing mail traffic:
AOL
Earthlink
AT&T
MindSpring
BellSouth
MSN
CableOne
NetZero
Charter
People PC
Comcast ATTBI (depends on what part of the country)
Sprynet
Cox
Sympatico.ca
Verio
Flashnet
Verizon
MediaOne
These are the providers known to Weberz at the time of this writing as actively restricting outgoing traffic. More will be added as they are found.
Verified that your ISP hasn’t blocked outgoing mail traffic, yet you still can’t send mail? Check to make sure that your SMTP Auth settings are set correctly.
